Our mission is to fund the people, institutions and ideas that hold a community together, in Australia and Israel.
Honey Cake grew out of Melbourne’s Jewish community, a place where generosity, tradition and everyday life meet. We stand on the shoulders of those who gave before us, and that heritage shapes how we give. We invest in the conditions that keep tradition living and in use, not preserved behind glass.
We fund projects, but the projects themselves are not really the point. What matters is who carries the work forward: the people, the institutions and the relationships that pass it from one generation to the next.
Why Honey Cake
A name built around sharing, optimism and renewal.
During Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, honey cake is baked and shared. It sits at the centre of the table, and everyone gets a slice. We eat it with a wish for a sweet year. That is where our name comes from.
Sweetness is not a small thing to wish for. It is the hope that the year ahead is sweeter than the one behind it.
Just as honey cake brings sweetness and joy to the table, Honey Cake exists to bring optimism, kindness and possibility into people’s lives. Every moment can be a new beginning. Every moment can be a new year.
